Resembling beautiful pearl like objects, Buddhists believe they embody the Master’s spirit of Compassion and Wisdom and are deliberately produced by Him on His death. New Delhi, February 16

After more than 20 days of intense international controversy, the central security and intelligence agencies have given a “clean chit” to Tibetan spiritual leader Karmapa Ugyen Trinley Dorjee in the case relating to the huge foreign currency haul from his house, saying the money had come in the form of donations and offerings by devotees.

“The foreign currency recovered during raids are donations and offerings from devotees and the affairs of the Karmae Garchen Trust backed by him are managed by the trustees. It happened due to the callousness of his associates and lack of knowledge of laws,” a source said, adding the Karmapa’s associates had made the mistake of keeping such a huge amount of foreign currency.

A nine-member delegation of the Karmapa’s followers, an MP and some political leaders today met Union Home Secretary GK Pillai and apprised him about various aspects of the case. The delegation pleaded the Karmapa’s innocence and assured Pillai of his cooperation in the ongoing probe.

The Home Secretary is learnt to have asked the delegation to advise the Karmapa and his associates about existing laws, hire a chartered accountant to manage his funds and register the Karmae Garchen Trust under the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act. Pillai also told the delegation that the Karmapa’s associates had no business to buy benami lands.

A probe was initiated against the 17th Karmapa and he was questioned after an unaccounted sum of Rs 1 crore was recovered from two of his associates near Una on January 25. Three days later, the Himachal Police seized Rs 6 crore in foreign currencies, including the Chinese yuan, from a room at the Gyuto Tantric Monastery at Sidhbari on the outskirts of Dharamsala, the capital of the Tibetan government-in-exile.

Greetings to you all. My name is Sonam Ongmu Denzongpa, President of Karmapa Australia and the daughter of three generations of Karmapa devotees.

I am so saddened by the incident that happened on Wednesday 26th of January and how media, Himachal Pradesh Police and the Chief Minister have accused His Holiness of being a Chinese spy.

I live in Australia and I couldn’t sit here watching the news and praying for truth to be discovered. I asked myself how I could assist and be of service because I can’t tolerate injustice, discrimination and anybody being wrongly accused.

As you are all aware Kagyu Monlam has just finished and most of you as Buddhist students who attended the teachings would have paid your respect in the form of a cash offerings.

Before the offerings could be accounted for and sent to respective monasteries, this incident happened. You all have had your share of insights and learnings and are all very familiar with the amazing presence of H.H. We all know he is 100% dedicated to compassion, the environment, humanity and the planet.

Perhaps a way we could all help in our own way would be to write to the decision makers who are overseeing the case?

I request you all to please help in this campaign to prove that H.H. students all come from different countries and that we all have made our share of offerings in our own currency. The investigation happening as we speak and the sooner write the better.

Sonam Ongmu Denzongpa

After many years of waiting the 17th Gyalwang Karmapa has arrived in New York, America. This is an incredible event for buddhism in America and one that thousands of Kagyu students have been looking forward to for many years.

His Holiness has quite a busy schedule planned and has so far visited Ground Zero and the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Today, Saturday the 17th of May, the Gyalwang Karmapa gave his first teaching in the West. He spoke about patience, compassion and stated that he had never ever forgotten about the American people.
